Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie

This Mint Chocolate Chip smoothie has all the delicious flavours of a mint chocolate milkshake yet it’s full of nourishing ingredients to keep you full and make you feel great! You’d never know you were drinking spinach!

Ok I can’t wait for you to try this recipe, it is seriously SO GOOD! Christmas is absolutely the time to indulge which usually means lots of food and lots of treats. I know around this time of the year I can start to feel really sluggish and have energy spikes and crashes with all the sweets that are around, so I wanted to create a few recipes that still have those delicious comforting festive flavours, but make you feel good!

 

This one was a given, I love anything mint choc chip flavoured, particularly milkshakes. This super nourishing smoothie is full of wholesome ingredients like spinach, banana and almond milk, and replaces chocolate with cacao nibs to get that nice ‘choc chip’ crunch.

 

The intense peppermint flavour comes from Peppermint Essential Oil and tastes just like a peppermint milkshake! You don’t need much, just 2 drops of any food grade peppermint essential oil will give your smoothie a vibrant mint flavour throughout. I use the doTERRA essential oils because I know they’re great quality and safe to use in food, but there are other great brands out there- just make sure they are food grade and say ‘certified organic’ or ‘certified therapeutic grade’ somewhere on the packaging.

Another great property of peppermint essential oil is that it is great for relieving headaches, so not only will it add amazing flavour to your smoothie but it will help with any headaches you may have through the busy festive season!

 

Oh and I promise you the flavour of this smoothie is strongly mint, you can’t taste the spinach at all. I love having this in the morning during the holidays because I’m getting my festive fix at the same time as starting my day off well with plenty of nutrients. If you want to add the finishing touch for a real holiday feel, top with a bit of whipped cream and some extra cacao nibs.

Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie

Servings 1 smoothie

Ingredients

  • 250 ml almond milk
  • 2 cups spinach leaves
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 2 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions

  1. Place almond milk, spinach, banana, protein powder, and cacao nibs in a blender and blend on high until combined (about a minute or so)

  2. Add the peppermint essential oil and blend for another few seconds

  3. Pour into a glass and serve immediately
